Valley Central revises code of conduct re-elected
Wallkill Board
President
By TED REMSNYDER
When devising a Code of Conduct,
a school district has to keep pace with
modern technological advances, and
the Valley Central Board of Education
approved an updated code on Monday
night that includes new language barring
electronic cigarettes from school property.
The state mandates that districts must
re-adopt their codes every year, and Valley
Central used the opportunity this cycle to
address the growing usage of e-cigarettes.
The devices, also known as vaporizers,
are ostensibly designed to help smokers
quit their habit, but the technology has
other uses as well.
Vaporizers allow the user to inhale
a flavored liquid that could include
nicotine or other sweet candy-like
flavors. The devices can also be used as
a way for vapers to surreptitiously smoke

The board president, fresh from his
own re-election and the passage of the
school budget, is happy to maintain the
status quo.
“We are looking to stay where we are
as we move in a very tight knit machine,”
he said.
The district received a $2.6 million
grant recently for the advancement of
technology in the schools. Thus far, they
have been able to bring in Smart Boards
and a new sound system. But those
are only two of the ways they will be
improving the technology for the district.
