Motorcycles to hum in Montgomery once again The Town Board last Thursday agreed to a short moratorium – Supervisor Charles Carnes said it could last as little as 90 days – on construction, installation, approval and process of applications for solar energy systems. The moratorium won’t affect rooftop-mounted solar panels, nor will it include small farm solar fence chargers. The Continued on page 2 Walden accepts STOP-DWI funding Light on her feet Village board clears the way for Teutul Jr. By TED REMSNYDER By JANE ANDERSON Custom motorcycle fabrication will once again hum in the village of Montgomery, as the Village Board last Tuesday agreed to change zoning to allow the former Pine Bush Auction House to become a shop for Paul Teutul Jr. of “American Chopper” fame. The board also heard plans for the upcoming St. Pat’s Ramble, and listened to residents’ requests to allow time between the release of budget numbers and adoption of the budget so residents can offer input. Teutul thanked the board after they approved Local Law 1-2 of 2016 to change the zoning for 155-157 Ward St. to allow custom fabrication of vehicles – including motorcycles. “I always hoped to be in the village again,” Teutul said. A person is killed every 53 minutes in the United States as a result of drunk driving, and Orange County and the Village of Walden are doing their part to reverse this infuriating trend. At the Walden Board of Trustees meeting on Feb. 16, the village unanimously passed a resolution to accept funding this year from the county’s STOP DWI initiative. The program provides money to local municipalities to crack down on driving under the influence. The funding, which will cover the period from March 14, 2016 until Jan. 1, 2017, will allow Walden to authorize overtime for police officers to set up periodic sobriety roadblocks in the village. “It’s a program where officers actually go out and put up traffic stops,” Walden Mayor Susan Rumbold said. “They’re looking for drivers that are impaired, and that supposedly helps cut down on drunk driving or having drivers out there who are impaired.” The village received $500 from Continued on page 4 SERVING CRAWFORD, GARDINER, MAYBROOK, MONTGOMERY, PINE BUSH, SHAWANGUNK, WALDEN AND WALLKILL
