Walden: town needs to mend its bridge
By TED REMSNYDER
Six years after the Hill Street Bridge was closed due
to severe storm damage, the Village of Walden is out of
patience for the Town of Montgomery’s failure to re-open
the span. The bridge was originally damaged during
Hurricane Sandy in the fall of 2012, and has been shuttered
ever since. At the Walden Village Board meeting on Aug.

town’s lack of action in repairing the local bridge.
No plan has been put in place over the last six years to
bring the bridge back into service, and village residents
and officials are getting restless waiting for the repairs
to begin. “We had assumed that the town had applied for
funding to fix it, but then we discovered that they had
not,” Walden Mayor Susan Rumbold said. “So we’ve been
asking them for a period of time to repair it. It would
have to be ascertained what the damage is, and then get

town board, seeking its approval for
community solar provider Nexamp.
Residents who choose to opt in to the
program would receive their power from
community solar facilities in Wappinger
and Milton capable of powering between
500 and 700 homes.
The Taskforce is asking the board to
approve Nexamp as the installer of choice
for Gardiner Community Solar.

Jean Buckley has stepped up as the
new president of the Humane Society
of Walden (HSW) Board of Directors,
continuing the shelter’s mission of
providing care for animals and educating
the public.
Buckley said she wants to continue
programs and grow existing programs that
connect the shelter with the community,
especially outreach programs that cater
to children, veterans and seniors.
“It’s really an on-going process... It’s
really multi-faceted. We’d really like to
connect with the community,” Buckley
said.
For instance, a program called Paws to
Read allows children to read books in the
cat room. It socializes the cats by allowing
them to approach the kids on their own
