Montgomery Town
Planning Board reviews
three projects

Three solar farms were presented to
the town of Montgomery planning board,
prompting several concerns for residents.
Borrego Solar is a proposed five-
megawatt system at 1343 Rt 52, outside
Walden, with about 25 acres of panels and
19,000 individual panels. It would power
about 2,100 homes in the New York State
Electric and Gas Corporation (NYSEG)
district. The project also includes two
energy storage containers that would
store power during the day and dispense
it at night.
Community solar facilities are large
solar projects capable of generating
power for hundreds of homes. Residents
can choose to opt in to the facility at a
discounted rate. Community solar gives
residents a way to power their homes
with clean energy without installing solar
panels themselves.
“They wouldn’t have to have it on their
house or be in their backyard,” Project
Developer Michael Doud said. “It would
be in a central location and they can buy
energy from a renewable solar system.”
The panels will be built on farmland,

miniature American flags from front
porches and lawn chairs as the truck
containing the Wall that Heals, a replica
of the Washington, D.C. Vietnam
Veterans Memorial, passed through
Union street. The Orange County Nam
Knights led 800 motorcycles in a three-
mile long procession, the roar of bikes
lacing the air as they raced past the
crowd.
“Montgomery is just really a patriotic
community and we really come together
for our country,” Village of Montgomery
Mayor Stephen Brescia said.
The Wall was on its way to the
Newburgh Riverfront Marina where it
was stationed last weekend, giving local
residents the opportunity to experience
and remember the Vietnam era.
The Vietnam Veterans Memorial
Fund unveiled the half-scale replica on
Veterans Day in 1996. Since then, the
Vietnam Veterans Memorial replica
and mobile education center has passed
through more than 600 communities
throughout the U.S., educating the
public and allowing veterans to begin
the healing process by experiencing
the wall in the comfort of their own
communities.
