Masonic Lodge celebrates a milestone

One of the major social fraternities anywhere in the world , the Free Masons , celebrated a major milestone locally in Walden at Lodge # 627 on Main Street Saturday .

With Mason luminaries from the state level on hand , including Grand Master Jeffrey M . Williamson , and a host of officers from the local chapter including Worshipful Master James Curry , lodge 627 celebrated its 150th anniversary with a true to masonry tradition public rededication ceremony .
The ceremony was proceeded by refreshments and socializing at the masonic hall on the third floor of the old Main Street building . The complete traditional uniforms adorned by all who partook were striking and eye-catching , the ritual with which all parts of the proceedings were performed exacting and precise , and the symbolism produced by various props was thick as mid-June humidity .
That symbolism was achieved with the help of the good book , which at this but not all lodges was the Bible , three candles representing the light which is required around the book while opened

James , who served as President of the Walden PBA , has received numerous citations and awards during his tenure . At last year ’ s Walden Police Awards Ceremony , he received a Meritorious Service Citation for apprehending a disorderly person with a knife , an Honorable Service Citation , an Exceptional Duty Citation and a Unit Citation for saving a person ’ s life . and the wine glasses which while in reality empty , symbolically contained oil , corn and wine each holding different symbolic meaning . Wine for example , symbolizes refreshment .

“ In addition to being a wonderful police officer , he was an extraordinary human being ,” said Walden Mayor Susan Rumbold at a shortened village board meeting last Tuesday night . “ The community in our police department will feel the loss of Dustin for many years to come .”
James is survived by his wife , Maryellen James .
