Walking On, Volume 9, Issue 6, August 2022 | Page 23

The Costume Class proved to be fun for all . Tucker Hall was a true International trooper .
er Western Amateur our songstress , Kelly Querrey aboard Bombay Sapphire carried the blue out . All Day Pleasure OAT followed with another large class and this time young Caitlin Winstead exited carrying the blue aboard Limelight and Roses . The All Day Pleasure Five and Under saw good riding Kaitlyn Rippy lighting up the winners circle with Light Up The Knight . These 4 classes were extra large and kept he audience entertained . The second of the Gilbert & Evelyn Miller Scholarships was awarded in the Classic Trail Pleasure Championship Youth 17 and under English / Western to Eliza Dekleyn riding Labeled A Parolee in yet another big class .
Did I mention that the Rowdy Ranch crew provided Prime Rib for the Maiden owners / exhibitors prior to the start of the show ? Plus shrimp , fries ( don ’ t know what Big Tony uses to season those potatoes but dang they are tasty ). Again the WHOA staff benefited from this by being served the same menu ! YUM !
I would like to commend and mention our hard working WHOA staff — they arrive early to help answer questions , enter horses , scratch horses , assign campers , show you where your stall is and on and on . Teresa , Marcy , Patsy , Amy and Susan ( these last two ladies were on loan from PWHAT and we really needed and very much appreciated them ) are there each day to assist you . Please let them know you appreciate them . We had a new employee in center ring this year as another of the Newberry granddaughters helped with the ribbons , etc . Hannah Newberry proved a quick and competent study as she arranged the ribbons for each class in the correct order after only being shown once or twice . Hannah was a great help and a much needed assistant . Peggy Moore and Mark Taylor volunteered to help in center ring . Their capable help was needed and appreciated .
One of the “ jobs ” of the WHOA employee is to
find lodging for the “ crew ”. Again this year the STAY- BRIDGE Suites & Inns was our host motel . This is a great facility . The staff goes out of their way to meet our many needs , it is a great location ( at the exit of Medical Way / I24 ) close to the Miller and has all the amenities including a really great breakfast menu and a “ social hour ’ which began at 5:30 so none of the horse show crew got to sample this newly added feature . Strongly recommend you use the Staybridge If you plan to spend the night ( s ) in Murfreesboro , did I mention the well lite parking lot making an old doll feel safe when she arrives in the wee hours of the morning ? Believe me in this time that is important as well as Zaxbys being RIGHT next door as well as a gas station .
Day 9
FINAL NIGHT WOW ! Championship after championship receiving BEAUTIFUL floral horseshoes created by Jeffery McGee .
The 3rd of the Gilbert & Evelyn Miller Scholarships was the Classic Trail Pleasure / Trail PleasureYouth Championship won by The Big Bang with Kylie Duvall riding for Christy Duvall in a huge and talented championship .
The championships are very well filled . Sinaloa , a Maiden winner from last year proved he still was a winner as he carried Kathy Anderson to the floral horseshoe in the Country Pleasure / Classic Country Pleasure Amateur Championship . Classic Country Pleasure Amateur Championship went to Late For A Date and Connie Holbrook winning , I think her first set of International roses . Joe Lester also rode this walking entry to a couple of blues .
Buck Naked proved he still has it as he won the Country Pleasure / Classic Country Pleasure OAT Championship with Jared Carrier riding for his pleased mother , Bonny Carrier .
