The Via Claudia Augusta walking trail was once a main cultural and trading route of the Roman Empire. The route was the first proper road across the Alps and was built by Emperor Claudius to the connect the Adriatic with the Danube. As you tour through the South Tyrol, you will discover the most beautiful parts of Via Claudia which is a great experience for every walker. You will pass mountain panoramas, magnificent vineyards and orchards with unspoilt nature.

There are numerous castles and fortresses along the way, mountain museums and a wonderful finish at the Mediterranean spa town of Meran. You can also continue to the famous wine area around Lake Kaltern.
