Staying the Course in Turbulent Times by Amy Greenwood-Dudar

Wow ! What turbulent times we find ourselves in both international , nationally , and locally . I don ’ t have any answers or even any suggestions as to what we as individuals can do to address the international and national situations . But on the local level , what I have found that works is NOT to overreact . Stop and reflect then focus on taking care of my work and my home and to address the situations that I CAN impact . Sometimes having tunnel vision helps and then breaking a monster problem down into smaller parts that I can attack a piece at a time .
My dogs have always been my solace , because no matter what happens , they are there with their character , devotion and loyalty . They have a way that always makes me smile . The APBT as a breed stands for honor and gameness and understanding their history provides the backdrop for my life that gives me the dedication to work hard and never quit .
Everyday we see examples of truly honorable men and women , working hard to get things right . We can be grateful and remember that we are a community of American Pit Bull Terrier fanciers and we are here for one another . We can protect our dogs with courage and wisdom if we can learn to stand together and support one another . Let us put our egos aside and act for the betterment of the breed and one another and we will get through these turbulent times . Standing together always feels better and many times will give better results than standing alone .
As a follow-up to my research article on prepotent brood stock in American Pit Bull Terrier history , I have quite
4 a list of dogs that readers have asked to be featured in the Gazette . I thank them for their continued interest in this topic .
Bailey ’ s Bingo
Bingo was whelped in the yard of Katie Marlowe in 1983 . Katie bred her brood matron Fanny back to her grandsire ( X2 ) Bass ’ Tramp Red Boy . This was very similar to the breeding of the famous Kirby ’ s CH Yellow John who was a prominent sire himself .
Bingo spent the first two years of his life in the Marlowe Kennel until he was sold to Steel Fire Kennels .
After spending three years at Steel Fire Kennels , Bingo was offered for sale and Brian Bailey , having an interest in the Red Boy dogs , purchased him . He felt that he would make a big impact on his yard , as Bingo would bring the Red Boy blood up real close .
After spending a short time at Brian ’ s yard , Bingo proved that he was going to be the primary stud dog of the Bailey Kennel . According to Brian ’ s records , Bingo was bred to around 26 different females producing outstanding dogs in many of his litters . Two of his offspring , Kitten ’ s Devil Deacon and Crenshaw ’ s
Hunter Red , were featured in my article in the last issue of the Gazette .
Another two females that come to mind are Blitz ’ and Bailey & Locke ’ s Twister . Twister is the grand-dam ( X2 ) of Sami The Arab ’ s Boomer , one of the prepotent stud dogs that were featured in the original study on Prepotent Brood Stock .
Bailey is the product of inbreeding from a grandsire to grand-daughter mating . Red Boy was bred to his granddaughter Kitten ’ s Fanny to produce Bingo ’ s litter . Fanny was the result of a half brother to half sister mating where Red Boy was bred to two different females . One of these brood matrons , Marlowe ’ s Red Feathers , was also sired by Red Boy .
Due to the degree of inbreeding and line breeding in Bingo ’ s pedigree the total genetic influence of Red Boy in Bingo ’ s pedigree is 84 %.
The other prominent bloodlines identified in Bailey ’ s pedigree is the Loposay line . Bass ’ Tramp Red Boy is one of the individual dogs within the breed that fanciers designate as a bloodline . This is because of his ability to consistently produce his outstanding qualities into his offspring .
A stud dog with this ability is referred to as ' prepotent ’. Offspring bred down from Bass ’ Tramp Red Boy are known as the Red Boy line . Red Boy was an inbred dog from a father to daughter mating based on the stud dog Teal ’ s Jeff . Prominent bloodlines in the pedigree of Teal ’ s Jeff include the Colby , Neblett and Loposay bloodline .
