CPR
Know your ABCs
First step in any dangerous situation is to first access it. Start with
yourself and do a quick wellness check to ensure you don’t have any injuries.
Once you are all clear take a look around you and assess the stability
of others. If you find someone that is injured, first shout for help
in case there are any emergency personnel nearby. After that, remember
your A, B, Cs.
A is for Airway. Check to see if the person’s airway is obstructed by
the tongue, fluid, debris or swelling. You can do this by tilting their
head back and with your thumb open the mouth.
B is for Breathing. Once you know the airway is clear, check to see if
the person is breathing. If you find they are not, move on to C immediately
C is for Chest Compressions. This is when you would want to start
the CPR process.
Heimlich Maneuver
Heimlich Maneuver is the recommended treatment to stop choking. Here
are some easy steps to help you remember how it is done.
1. Stand behind the person and place both arms around leaning them
forward,
2. Then perform up to five (5) abdominal thrusts. Continue the cycle
until the foreign object is dislodged.
Note: This is for choking adults only.
