To sum up, according to data stemming from the literature and those obtained from our
research, the study of vascular function in preeclamptic patients seems to play a signiFicant role in the
understanding, prediction and postpartum follow up of these patients.
It has been suggested that pregnancy should be regarded as a failed stress test. Patients who
develop pre-eclampsia have acquired a metabolic syndrome under the stress of pregnancy, and
henceforth, are more likely to develop metabolic syndrome and subsequent CVD later on in life. This
patient population may therefore beneFit from early antepartum identiFication, using FMD and arterial
stiffness measurements which could provide a novel way of identifying those at future risk of
cardiovascular disease.

Rezumat: Preeclampsia, o patologie a endoteliului matern
in tarile industrializate.
adresam unui patologii multisistemice, mediate placentar. Disfunctia placentara, datorata unor
mecanisme inca incomplet intelese, conduce in ultima instanta la o disfunctie endoteliala sistemica. De
fapt, toata simptomatologia speciFica acestei patologii poate Fi atribuita afectarii functionale vasculare
generalizate.
