DARK( CONT’ D)
Written by Black Girls Glow, Ms. Fu Performed by Black Girls Glow
In the dark. I am all the versions of myself existing in other universes. In the dark, my words are articulate and faultless, and I win all my arguments. In the dark, my body is a foreign country and my grief is a starving child
In the dark, I am a soft body of a thing, mourning my past selves, pining for deferred dreams and cheering on the woman I am.
I swing low, I smile, I pray God we grow old together. We do, thick and flat footed, marshmallowed ankles, our feet stomach the floor acquiesced in our will to shoot the breeze.
SISTERS KEEPER
Written by Jasmine Knowles Performed by Denise Burse
Our feet scuff permanence into the ground as we walk. Shores of gray mark our hair lines, the youth think us wise.
We’ ve lived,
Old enough to watch the lines on our fragile palms imprint new futures. Old enough to see all the good ones go. Old enough to adopt resting our eyes when we are tired.
It is a black girl’ s birthright to laze on porches and hoard sun. All day we sip tea and lemonade or whatever flavor you’ ll have.
