Cimex was on the ground ; subsequently , he started to glow a soft off white color . Then the glow grew into a bright yellow . It seemed that he had absorbed Zeus ’ spark . Cimex started to fly off the ground . Yellow light was still emanating from him . He was no longer screaming , in fact Cimex even seemed excited . He could see just like it was day , but it was night .
“ Thank you Zeus ! How could I ever repay you ?” cried Cimex . “ The only thing I ask is that you never scream at night again ,” Zeus replied . Cimex responded , “ I promise I will never ever scream at night again .” After that Zeus left for Mt . Olympus . As Cimex promised , he never screamed at night again , in fact he loved the dark now and only came out at night . Ever since that night when Cimex was struck by lightning , he was no longer afraid of the dark and people even started to call him Cimex Fulgur ( lightning bug ). As the years went by Cimex passed his gift from Zeus to all of his descendants . And so every night when the sun goes down the lightning bugs illuminate the night .
