Officer Reports

President Necati Unsal

On paper, the duties of the President are pretty straightforward. According to the constitution, the President must run board meetings, create and be a member of all committees, plan and preside over the state convention, and sign off on any votes or amendments. Though this may seem like a long list of responsibilities, in reality, the president’s main job is unwritten, to make sure that the other board members get their job done to the best of their ability. This job, while vague, is what makes being president so rewarding; I can recall times in which the other officers and I stayed up until midnight just to finish spirit videos or plan for events. This should demonstrate that, above all else, a good president is someone who supports their board rather than assuming responsibility for all of their work. If you ever considered running for president, I’d highly recommend it; it has indeed been one of the most rewarding experiences in my academic career.
