Officer Updates President/Acting 1 st VP Emily Ye: Since the Spring Council Meeting, I continued compiling emails for schools with Latin that are not currently in the VJCL. In addition, I ran the National Classics Week spirit contest and service project with Savvy; thank you to all who participated! In preparation for NJCL Convention, I attended the first spirit castra at Mrs. Lister’s house. Afterwards, I also began working on a promotional brochure for the VJCL to mail to schools that offer Latin, I and reorganized my officer box. Finally, I created the agenda for the fall meeting. 2 nd VP Savannah Thompson: I prepared for NJCL, holding three spirit castra (hosted by Ms. Lister, Riverbend, and Flint Hill) where many VJCLers came to make props for spirit. Before NJCL, I also posted a cheer compilation video made and edited by Julia Billera. At NJCL, I am very happy to report that we won spirit on two seperate days, and at the end of the week, spirit overall! Maximas gratias to everyone who helped in any way with that! I also attended all the service project colloquia. We spent the week writing different messages about JCL onto slips of paper and putting those into school supplies to spread the word about JCL and Latin. Finally, I reached out to the new national 2 nd VP, Athena Davis, and I am excited to announce that I will be contributing to her guide to spirit and service! Secretary Ashley Lee: After the spring meeting, I edited the minutes and published them in Google Drive. I also went to Spirit Castra, where I worked with the other officers and JCLers to prepare for NJCL Convention. At Nationals, I accompanied parliamentarian Jack Purple to NomCom where I took minutes and served as a second voting delegate. I also took minutes at each state fellowship, which I promoted through our social media. After attending the Secretary colloquium at Nationals, I was inspired to make a Remind group for local Secretaries where I will be able to relay information. I believe that by creating this, I can reach out to more schools and make sure they’re informed of the happenings in the JCL. To join, please text @virginialo (lower case L as in local) to 81010. Parliamentarian Jack Purple: Since the last forum, I have attended meetings and led elections at NJCL convention in Fargo, ND, attended the VJCL fall executive council meeting at Riverbend High School, and attended a number of Certamina and other JCL events where I encouraged VJCLers to run for office. I am now working on the preparations for VJCL convention and I can’t wait to see everyone in Richmond! Editor Cal Lucido: I hosted an officer Instagram takeover, I unfortunately scrapped my plans to create an online publications contest, and I fortunately published the Forum (which coincidentally, you’re reading right now). Historian Shrinidhi Sathish: Since the spring meeting, I took photos at St. Albans Certamen, State Certamen Finals, Certamen State Team Tryouts, and National Convention. I compiled all of the pictures I took into our mythological-superhero themed scrapbook. I changed the POTM schedule to allow local historians more time. Additionally, I created a statewide email list and a Google Classroom page. At NJCL, I collected pictures from JCLers and posted many of those on our social media. Finally, I participated in the officer competition bake sale at Certamen Finals and the officer takeover on Instagram during NJCL. 5
