Most families book dental check-ups in December. Which is also when every other family books dental check-ups. There ' s a better way— and Term 3 is it.
By the time November rolls around, our appointment book is full. The endof-year scramble of school concerts, family commitments, the desperate realisation that health fund benefits expire on 31 December, creates a bottleneck that means many families wait weeks for a routine appointment. Mid-year, by contrast, has availability, flexibility, and a few other advantages that most parents don ' t think about.
The Strategic Case for a Mid-Year Visit
Many private health funds operate on a calendar-year benefit cycle, which means your dental cover resets in January.
Visiting mid-year lets you use benefits from the first half of the year while they ' re current and if treatment is recommended, you have time to complete it before December rather than scrambling to fit it in before the cut-off. School holiday appointments are also longer and more relaxed, with no pressure to rush back for afternoon pickup, ideal if your child needs a little extra time to settle in.
Six-monthly check-ups are the standard recommendation for children at all ages. Each visit includes a professional clean, decay assessment, development review, and fluoride treatment if appropriate, all in one appointment. Don ' t wait for a problem to appear before booking.
