“I first encountered the Winged Fellowship Trust in the form of the redoubtable Joan Brander during a recording of 'Hearts of Gold' in 1996. What struck me about Joan was her incredible empathy with the people she supported. Joan understood that the key to good respite care was not only logistics, but also love. It seemed to me that the charity she had created was fulfilling a real need by giving disabled people and carers an opportunity to spend time in the company of friends, in fresh surroundings, doing new things, and in the process combatting the dreadful effects of social isolation. The more I discovered about her, the more impressed I was by what she had created. I knew this was a charity I could support. I've had the honour of being a Vitalise VP to this day.”
