Walk With A Doc Shawnee Park At Iroquois Park, Shawnee Park and the Parklands of Floyds Fork, people are lacing up their tennis shoes and hitting the trails. But their walking companions are not family, friends or pets – they’re doctors. Parklands of Floyds Fork Beginning this May, Louisvillians can “Walk With A Doc” on the second Saturday of each month at the Parklands, the third Saturday at Iroquois and the fourth Saturday at Shawnee. Every walk begins at 10 a.m. with a physician giving a brief informational talk on health and wellness. Then the group goes for a walk of about 45 minutes, covering 2 ½ to 3 miles over flat ground. Individuals are welcome to walk a shorter distance based on their comfort level. In addition, Jewish Hospital’s cardiac rehabilitation team offers free blood pressure checks and educational materials that walkers can take home with them. “Walk With A Doc strives to create a community of walkers so that they will connect with like-minded individuals and encourage each other,” said Jesse Adams, MD, a cardiologist with Medical Center Cardiologists who founded the program in Louisville as governor of the American College of Cardiology’s Kentucky chapter. “Our goal is to get people moving and inspire them to become more active throughout the week.” Walk With A Doc is free and open to people of all ages and abilities. Walking programs are a low-impact way to be physically active and are generally safe for people with orthopedic and heart conditions.
