||||||||||
Over the years , the iconic posters made by Globe have promoted the people ’ s entertainment , including vaudeville , burlesque , movies , circus and carnival acts . The company started in 1929 , but some of the most memorable posters came from the 1960s for top R & B and rock acts like Mavis Staples , Otis Redding , Marvin Gaye and the Beach Boys . Using large cylinder presses , each poster is letterpressed with wood type on day-glo screenprint backgrounds , making each one a unique work of art . |

Nipper the RCA Dog
This giant statue , which recreates a famous painting from 1898 , sits on the top of the Maryland Center for History & Culture . It originally sat atop the RCA building in Baltimore when Nipper was the mascot of the company , and has moved around a few times ( including to Virginia for about 20 years ), but the pup and his gramophone have now retired to Park Avenue in Mount Vernon .
