NOSTALGIC

Moments

We ’ ve been dreaming a lot more lately about the Before Times , when “ social distance ” and “ quarantine ” weren ’ t part of our everyday vocabulary . We hope these iconic Baltimore images may take you back to yesteryear .
Domino Sugars Sign
The iconic neon sign of the Domino Sugars factory has long been a fixture of the Baltimore skyline . The factory is in Locust Point , but the sign can be seen from virtually anywhere on the harbor . Domino Sugar has been a Baltimore brand since 1922 and the factory produces more than 6.6 million pounds of sugar every day .

MEMORY LANE
Miracle on 34th Street
This Baltimore tradition dates back to 1947 , when a local couple started decorating their house with lavish displays and got the entire block to join in . Each year , the 700 block of 34th Street in the Hampden neighborhood comes aglow with more holiday decorations than you can imagine . There are some tried and true repeats each year , like the hubcap Christmas tree and the bicycle wheel snowman , but keep an eye out for topical references such as a previous year ’ s House of Cards-themed arrangement .

Lexington Market
Founded in 1782 , Lexington Market is the oldest continually running market in America . Visitors and locals alike come back again and again for favorites that have been in operation for decades , like Faidley ’ s Seafood , Berger ’ s Bakery and Connie ’ s Chicken and Waffles , just to name a few . The market is currently undergoing a major overhaul that will introduce a new building harkening back to previous market forms and will make space for an urban plaza to be used for farmers markets and events .
