Sweet Treats
After a morning on the water, you’ re back in town, craving a well-deserved treat. As you stroll downtown Sitka, the aroma of waffle cones hits you, and you know exactly where to start.
FLOATS, SHAKES, & SUNDAES
While planning your vacation, you read somewhere that Alaska consumes more ice cream per capita than any other state and decide to join the tradition. Starting at Harry’ s Old Fashioned Soda Fountain, you glance at the menu and notice treats inspired by iconic Sitka landmarks. Finally, you decide to go big with the towering Mt. Edgecumbe Eruption, a giant ice cream sundae. If you prefer a little fizz, the Harbor Mountain Brewing Root Beer Float is the perfect way to taste local flavors while supporting another popular Sitka business.
HAND CRAFTED DONUTS
Tucked behind Ernie’ s Old Time Saloon in the food truck court, you spot The Donut Shack. As you watch mini cake donuts being fried fresh, you can almost taste the cinnamon sugar dusted over the top. These meltin-your-mouth delights are the perfect treat for a cozy shopping break.
ROASTED NUTS
You head to Sitka Nuts, located at the Sitka Sound Cruise Terminal, where locally-owned shops welcome all travelers. The owner, an active-duty Coast Guard member, specializes in Bavarian-style roasted nuts. Follow your nose and you’ ll know exactly where to go. The delectable scent of roasted butter and brown sugar can be recognized from a mile away. These crunchy bites are perfect for snacking as you explore town, or as a take-home souvenir for your loved ones.
CHOCOLATE & ESPRESSO
Why stop there? You decide to try all of Sitka’ s sweet spots. The scent of chocolate draws you into Sitka Flowers & The Chocolate Moose. The display is packed with handcrafted chocolates shaped like fish, bears, and moose— perfect souvenirs or snacks for the walk. Beyond chocolate, enjoy an espresso menu featuring locally-made salmonberry, spruce tip, and huckleberry syrups for a taste of Sitka’ s natural bounty.
IN SITKA, dessert is a taste of the town’ s local flavors and craftsmanship. Be sure to indulge in your well-earned reward after a day of adventure.
