ACTIVITIES
Sitka Like You’ ve Never Seen
You clip your harness into the double-safety lines of a rope course, standing on a log 30 feet above the ground. You take a big breath of fresh air and smell the cedars surrounding you. Activities like these are what you love to do on vacation: you get to be outside, move your body, and take in the beautiful views of Sitka. This new attraction isn’ t just for visitors— there is a group of locals just in front of you, having their own adventure too.
The new aerial park at Sheet’ ká Treetop Adventures offers an exhilarating experience for adventurers of all levels.“ Our course offers 25 + aerial obstacles arranged in a progression of difficulty,” explains Kory Bisset, Operations Manager.“ Guests build confidence as they move through the course and often surprise themselves, saying things like,‘ I did way more than I expected!’ And even when someone chooses to opt-out, we hear,‘ Whew, I’ m proud of how much I just tried!’” The course is designed to be fully customizable, giving guests the freedom to choose which obstacles to tackle— and how far to go.
Sheet’ ká Treetop Adventures is deeply connected to the local community.“ This project was started by Alaska Native corporation, Shee Atiká to create a space locals can enjoy too,” Bisset adds.“ We’ ve hosted everything from little league teams and corporate retreats to family reunions, helping people explore challenges together— and discover metaphors they can carry into their everyday lives.”
Be sure to also check out Alaska’ s largest full-dome theater, the Alaska Odyssey Dome located at the Sitka Sound Cruise Terminal. After watching a short documentary following a nearby eagle’ s nest, the Alaska Raptor Rehabilitation Center will offer an educational demonstration with a live eagle, giving the public a chance to learn about wildlife conservation while
witnessing these majestic birds up close. Additional programming is in the works for the Theater, as well as plans to operate a planetarium system that they’ ll use with our local school district.
These attractions are fun opportunities for visitors to connect with Sitka’ s old-growth forest while providing valuable year-round spaces to the local community. To discover even more ways to explore, go to visitsitka. org and start planning your trip!
