A STORY OF SITKA ’ S RESTAURATEURS
Fish – they ’ re what initially draw so many to Sitka , but what makes each of us stay is often vastly different . For Patty and Tony Buak , it was a pub that helped them set roots in this rainy , coastal town .
Though jobs kept their homebase in the Lower 48 for some time , their early years in Sitka consisted of charter fishing trips with friends , where Patty quickly earned the respect of many , as her fishing skills went unmatched . However , a taste of the ocean ’ s bounty , a local ad for the sale of a sports bar , and the craving to tap into a past career made for the perfect recipe to partake in a new adventure , and it wasn ’ t long before Patty and Tony made Sitka their permanent home . With this move , they acquired the Bayview Pub , a popular sports bar that overlooks Sitka ’ s Crescent Harbor . After taking over ownership , Tony and Patty worked hard to preserve the vision of the original owners , but they didn ’ t shy away from putting their own touches on the place too , including expanding the seating area . With Tony eager to put his chef ’ s hat back on , the menu also received a facelift . Today , it boasts a mix of comfort classics , like smoked chicken wings and gourmet burgers , and fine dining options , like rack of lamb , fish and chips , and house-cut top sirloins . Their biggest bragging point , however , is their long list of over 20 available beers , the largest selection in town .
