Explore Sitka ’ s Ancient Forest

SEASIDE STROLLS
Whether you ’ re looking for a rugged hike or something more leisurely , Sitka offers trails for all abilities . Sitka ’ s paved Sea Walk is perfect for those hoping to breathe in fresh saltwater air , listen to the eagles call , and watch the boats cruise in and out of the harbor . Informational signs scattered along the path highlight some of the unique features that make this seaside town what it is today .
FOREST WALKS
Visitors can also take in the temperate rainforest on a walk through Sitka ’ s National Historical Park . The fully accessible , wide trail is lined with historic totem poles and ancient Sitka spruce and hemlock trees , which help shield visitors on Sitka ’ s rainier days . Indian River , or Kaasda Héen , is a popular spawning ground for salmon that runs through the park , and visitors can stand alongside the river , observing as ravens and other wildlife feast on fish .
