RELAX AND INDULGE
This secluded getaway has amenities unlike any other , including a true luxury spa . When designing the open-air facility , it was important for Phil and Gwen to ensure their guests were experiencing a level of relaxation that couldn ’ t be found anywhere else . The wooden structure , which is equipped with heat lamps , overlooks the ocean , and the roof was specifically made from tin and cedar so when it rains , which it often does in Sitka , guests can listen to the music of the raindrops . In order to further showcase Sitka ’ s beauty , the front of the spa facility is completely open , letting guests gaze at ocean waves and tree-covered islands while one of the two licensed massage therapists helps them relax their muscles . “ People are in awe of how relaxed they were while Alaska sang to them the whole time ,” says Phil .
Another feature that sets Talon Lodge apart is the culinary experience they offer their guests .
The floor-to-ceiling windows in the dining room provide the perfect backdrop for the daily gourmet meals cooked up by the four chefs on staff . Guests even have the opportunity to learn from these seasoned chefs during nightly cooking demonstrations . “ We try to teach our guests what to do with their fish bounty when they get home . We want to give them all the tricks of the trade ,” explains Phil . And it ’ s not just the guests who get to finetune their cooking skills . The lodge often hosts visiting chefs who are trailblazers in the industry and winemakers who expertly pair their wines with each course , and they too pass along their knowledge and expertise both to the in-house chefs and guests . “ When you add all of that up , it makes for a real culinary surprise . Guests expect to get crab , salmon , and halibut when they come here , but they don ’ t expect to get it the way we present it ,” says Phil .
