HITTING THE BALL

OUT OF THE PARK

Baltimore has always counted sports among its favorite pastimes and as part of the local cultural legacy . After all , our city was home to the legendary ball player Babe Ruth and claims one of the world ’ s largest sports apparel manufacturers , Under Armour , as its own . There ’ s never been a better time to be a sports lover here .

For pro sports fans , we ’ ve got venues right in the city ’ s downtown , with Oriole Park at Camden Yards hosting our MLB team , the Orioles , for games each season . Just blocks away , M & T Bank Stadium is home to the NFL ’ s Ravens , a two-time Super Bowl champion team . After hosting the 2022 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association ( CIAA ) Men ’ s and Women ’ s Basketball Tournament in February , Royal Farms Arena closed for a year-long , $ 150-million renovation . It ’ s slated to reopen next year in time to host the 2023 CIAA tournament with an updated façade and concessions , plus new suites , seating and lighting .

But Baltimore ’ s love for sports goes beyond baseball , basketball and football . Lacrosse is Maryland ’ s official team sport , and it ' s been a part of Baltimore athletics for decades — all the way back to 1928 , when the Johns Hopkins University team represented the United States in lacrosse ’ s Olympic debut . USA Lacrosse is stationed in Baltimore , along with the National Lacrosse Hall of Fame and Museum , US Lacrosse Magazine and major equipment producers . In January , we hosted USA Lacrosse ' s annual convention , LaxCon , which included fan sessions with pro players , live field demos and an exhibit of the newest sport innovations . And the World Lacrosse Championship is coming to Baltimore June 29 – July 9 , hosted at Towson University .
