RASH FIELD PARK
Part of a multi-phase redevelopment project , the Inner Harbor ’ s Rash Field Park is a current must-see in Baltimore — and was created through a community-led design process that involved extensive public engagement efforts . The result ? A nearly $ 17 million renovation that incorporates the interests of community members of all sorts . Families will love Adventure Park , a playground featuring two 30-foothigh wooden towers , and the nature play space outfitted with native gardens , secret pathways and fallen logs . Both spaces were designed in collaboration with the Natural Learning Initiative , a leader in childhood development . Older kids ( and kids at heart ) may want to check out the new Jake ’ s Skate Park , named in honor of a skateboard-loving 5-year-old who was killed in an unfortunate accident . It was designed by one of the nation ’ s top concrete-skatepark design companies . Visitors and locals alike will enjoy the waterfront views , which you can check out from the vantage of porch swings that overlook the harbor , from underneath the stunning glass pavilion ( designed by acclaimed architects Gensler ), or from the green roof atop the pavilion . Future additions to the park will include exercise space and equipment .
PENN STATION
A bustling transportation hub since it was built in 1911 , the historic Baltimore Penn Station is now the eighthbusiest rail station in the country , serving more than three million passengers a year . Last spring , a multi-phase , $ 150 million makeover began . Phase 1 starts with a full historic preservation of the station s features and improvement of functionality . The following phases will reimagine the space through adaptive reuse , including transforming one million square feet of nearby Amtrak-owned property into mixed-use spaces that ll include office , residential , hospitality and retail over the next three years .
