Supporting Student Chefs

The tastiest part of this year ’ s NTTW was a cooking competition hosted by the Hyatt Regency Hotel Inner Harbor and facilitated by Baltimore City Public Schools and Visit Baltimore . The “ Baltimore Career and Technical Education ( CTE ) Food , Beverage & Baking Competition ” offered aspiring student chefs an opportunity to showcase an array of delicious culinary creations , prepared in the Hyatt ’ s kitchen under the direction of the hotel ’ s head chef .
Several dozen students were joined by culinary instructors and administrators from five Baltimore high schools : Edmondson- Westside , Mervo , Forest Park , Carver Vo-Tech and National Academy Foundation . The students heard from leaders in Baltimore ’ s local hospitality community about long term career potential in the industry and received a back-of-house tour to understand the many facets of what visitors can expect from a hotel experience . Young chefs from Carver Vo-Tech won the competition with a delectable menu of Roma tomato soup , Tuscan chicken and pot de crème . They were awarded locally embroidered chef coats , a silver cup and a lunch celebration at Fogo De Chao .
