Visit Baltimore Annual Report FY 2021-2022 2021 | Page 11

IT STARTS AT HOME , OR LEXINGTON MARKET
Part of achieving our goal to market and sell the city of Baltimore begins on the ground in our hometown , raising awareness among locals and visitors alike , of the wonderful assets the city has to offer .
As part of shifting the narrative for the city through its rebrand , Visit Baltimore sought multiple in-market locations that were well poised to amplify positive Baltimore branding . We envisioned two opportunities : a fabricated logo and a larger-than-life poster of East Baltimore poet and spoken word artist Kondwani Fidel ’ s “ Beneath the Shell ” poem that compares Baltimore to its signature food , crabs , and the things that come with it , such as rich flavor and social bonding .
One of several key places featuring the Globe Poster adaptation of Fidel ’ s poem is Lexington Market . Not only is it the oldest market in America , its influence on Baltimore ’ s , and America ’ s , multicultural food experience is iconic . In spring of 2022 , Lexington Market will unveil its transformation into the city ’ s largest and most diverse hub for small businesses and entrepreneurs .
Thank you to other partners including the National Aquarium , Max ’ s Taphouse , Downtown Partnership of Baltimore and Baltimore City Department of Recreation & Parks for featuring our branding via posters , logo sculptures and IKE digital messaging throughout the city .
