The Boat Game by Gabriela Mirela Jugar
The Boat Game project 2025 was a STEM challenge intended to stimulate the children’ s reasoning with puzzles, using creative thinking skills. The goal was to create a boat that can sail 200 meters. In order to solve this task and participate in the Boat Games project 2025, we needed to use our creative thinking, reasoning and collaboration skills. We were divided into small groups. Each group designed a boat. This task was solved simultaneously in several schools in Europe.
We design an environmentally friendly / sustainable boat that could sail 300-350 meters outdoors without sinking on the way. The boat that reached the highest average speed won the Boat Game 2025. An additional challenge was for the boat to carry one item the group chose. The items needed to arrive completely dry to the destination.
The group discussed the design. We wonder what material was the most suitable, what was the most efficient way of putting the boat together. We thought of concepts like strength and energy. We didn’ t use motors for this challenge. The group drew up a design proposal and showed the teacher before proceeding further.
The group builds the boat and got many hours / days / weeks to finish. Students understood the basics of recycling, why it’ s important, and how to practice it. The teachers prepared a collection of common household items( plastic bottles, paper, cans, food wrappers, etc.). Then they asked students why it’ s essential to separate recyclables and the impact of improper sorting on the environment. Students reviewed the recycling principles, learned about the environmental impact of waste, and understood the concept of“ waste leakage”.
We discussed within this eTwinning project the consequences of not recycling and mismanaging recyclables. Our students have created a poster with a
