Exploring Europe through European Collaboration by Cornelia Melcu
Project overview The eTwinning project titled“( e) Travel with Us” brought together students aged 7 – 11 and their teachers from several European schools to learn information about worth visiting places in the countries of their partners. Students were getting the role of travel agents that help their European clients to fulfill their travel dreams across the European Union. They worked to present to partners memorable places that show the culture, history, tradition, development, nature of their country. Their aim was to create a virtual travel agency in order to attract partnerstravelers to visit their country. This collaborative effort empowered children to understand different cultures, develop essential 21st-century skills, and engage in meaningful cultural and educational exchanges. The central goal was to inspire responsible citizenship and critical thinking while helping pupils build a vision for their future.
Collaboration across borders Teachers from partner schools created a shared plan using Google Docs and collaborated via TwinSpace, forums, and online meetings. Each phase of the project involved joint activities and culminated in shared products. Pupils worked in mixed international teams, exploring various places, creating surveys, and simulating
job roles- travel agents. Together, they produced digital presentations, designed and played online games, and created AIgenerated images that sparked creativity and encouraged interactive learning.
Use of technology Technology was central to the project’ s success. Pupils and educators used Google Forms, AnswerGarden, Canva, PosterMyWall, Padlet, Tricider, and Quizizz to conduct surveys, evaluate progress, and present their work. AI tools were introduced to enhance students’ understanding of image generation and responsible technology use. eSafety and copyright education were also prioritized through special training sessions and clear online conduct rules.
The importance of early technology integration Introducing technology at an early age fosters digital literacy and helps children grow into confident and competent users of modern tools. It builds a foundation for lifelong learning, encourages responsible digital citizenship, and promotes critical thinking and problem-solving. In this project, young learners demonstrated that even primary school students can use advanced tools like AI creatively and safely. Early exposure to digital environments also prepares pupils for future academic and professional challenges.
Teaching strategies and curriculum integration The project employed varied pedagogical methods: group projects, role-play, games, independent research, and art
