Books, Friendship and Diversity- Celebrating What Unites Us! by Gabriela Ciolpan, Carmen Alexandra Miricioiu, Adriana Bujag and Florentina Radu

At a time when education is being challenged to respond to cultural diversity and the need for solidarity between generations, schools and communities, the eTwinning project“ Books, Friendship and Diversity- Celebrating what unites us” has succeeded in bringing together pupils and teachers from five partner schools to build bridges through reading, creativity and civic activities. It is a perfect example of civic education through collaboration, reading and creativity.
Based on the year ' s theme“ Civic Education- Celebrating what unites us”, the project was conceived as a journey where children were encouraged to discover the common values that bring them together, despite differences in age, background or country.
The activities started on March 1, 2025, and were structured to make the most of digital resources, the creative potential of students and the importance of real cooperation. It started with the“ Friendship Map”, a visual representation of the symbols of the communities involved, followed by an exercise to raise awareness and assume responsible online behaviour by creating a collective guide to digital good manners. All products were collaboratively produced and published on the TwinSpace platform, giving each participant a genuine sense of belonging and contribution.
The shared reading of the book“ Elmer” by David McKee was at the heart of the project. Each day, students from all schools read the same pages, and on Thursdays they shared their impressions and questions. Elmer ' s stories of differences and acceptance were explored through text maps, quote collages, comic strips and even filmed skits and staged in a digital theatre. Children discovered that literature can be a powerful platform for dialog and empathy.
Another highlight was writing a collective story using the snowball technique. Students proposed and voted on the characters, and each partner school continued the story where the others left
