GrAIny TrAIny – An Intergenerational and International Journey of Learning and Growth by Alina Ramona Vlad reminded us of the importance of storytelling, oral history, and intergenerational dialogue.
The GrAIny TrAIny eTwinning project was more than a digital adventure – it was a creative, emotional, and collaborative learning journey that united students and teachers from across Europe. Built on the metaphor of sowing and cultivating“ grains” of knowledge, curiosity, empathy, and cultural awareness, the project empowered participants to grow both personally and academically.
From the very beginning, GrAIny TrAIny stood out due to its innovative intergenerational approach. One of the most unique components of the project was the meaningful involvement of grandparents and older family members. Through activities such as“ Ask Your Granny” and“ My Interview with the Virtual Grandma”, students conducted interviews with the elderly, exploring the traditions, habits, and memories of past generations. This exchange allowed learners to discover the richness of their own and their partners’ cultural heritage, creating powerful emotional connections and a deep sense of respect for the wisdom of age. Developing digital skills At the same time, the project was a celebration of digital innovation and 21stcentury skills. Students experimented with tools such as Padlet, Canva, Vocaroo, Genially, collaborative slides, podcasting platforms, and Micro: bit. They learned how to create digital stories, record podcasts on meaningful social topics, and design visuals for international challenges.
