children and I think that one of the greatest rewards of teaching is seeing the progress of the students ! From when students understand a difficult concept , to helping children learn a new skill , seeing a child ’ s eyes light up after grasping a new piece of knowledge is priceless .
Curriculum Integration and Interdisciplinarity in eTwinning Projects by Adriana Mariș
More than a decade ago , I made my first step toward eTwinning , out of curiosity , guided by a fellow teacher . This was one of the best choices I made in my teaching career . The countless professional development opportunities and the interaction with wonderful people , totally dedicated to 3rd millennium education continues to amaze me today . I think that the particularity of all eTwinners is the eagerness for selfdevelopment , the interdisciplinarity and the desire to build learning tools for their students , to help them make connections between school subjects and real life .
I was lucky enough to be accepted from the first months into the team of the MATHEMATICOMIX project , a project with many partners , from many countries , whose aim was to study the work of ancient Greek mathematicians : Thales , Pythagoras , Archimedes , Euclid and Hypatia . The students were given information in English about a mathematician and , after reading and translating it in their mother tongue , they answered a quiz , to assess their acquired information , they solved a problem using the methods of the studied mathematician , they solved puzzles , crosswords and didactic games , created comics inspired by his life and a problem to be solved by the project partners . The journeys made by the five mathematicians were studied on the map of Europe , Smilebox presentations were created with the students ’ drawings and photos from the activities .
