attitude based on growth , critical thinking , and the ability to manage one ' s own learning .
Through the beautiful metaphor of BREATH , Dr . Sala hinted that these skills are something that the individual possesses innately , but that it is necessary to exercise intentionally in order to achieve specific results , just as we do when we breathe . It is therefore important to integrate the teaching of these skills into the curriculum . If promoted in a systematic way , there is an improvement in school success , a decrease in early leaving , an increase in wellbeing and health , an improvement at the behavioural level ( decrease in violence and bullying ), while in the long term these skills have a positive impact on post-school choices and results .
In order to facilitate the integration of these skills into everyday teaching , the LifeComp into Action manual has been drafted , developed together with teachers and educators , which offers a series of guidelines , ideas and methodologies .
During the Panel discussion on May 25 th 5 teachers and school directors from different European schools , particularly attentive to the well-being of their students and teachers , discussed the concept of well-being and how this is promoted in their respective realities . The concept of well-being varies , and it is obviously very linked to the context in which the school is located and to the type of student population ( e . g . percentage of immigrants , socio-cultural background , etc .). For some children , e . g . migrants or refugees , feeling like at home , that is feeling respected and safe at school , is a priority . Good practices were therefore shared , such as the application of the PERMAH model of positive psychology , which consists of :
• Positive emotion ( e . g . streaming music during breaks )
• Engagement : offer the opportunity to carry out motivating activities that stimulate their active participation ( PBL , peer learning , interdisciplinary activities )
• Relationships ( develop a sense of belonging by creating interest groups or events in which parents are involved )
• Meaning ( activities where everyone can express their value and contribute to the community e . g . by volunteering , organising waste collection days , competitions , eTwinning projects )
