” From Seed to Plate”: Cultivating Sustainability and Intercultural Learning by Cornelia Melcu
Project Overview” From seed to plate” was an international eTwinning project that aimed to help pupils in primary classes understand the journey of food from seed to plate. The initiative promoted healthy lifestyles, environmental responsibility, and intercultural understanding. Through collaborative activities, pupils explored plant growth, sustainable agriculture, biodiversity, local food traditions, and healthy nutrition. The project successfully encouraged children to develop into responsible and environmentally conscious citizens who value and respect nature. Through meaningful learning experiences, they became more aware of the connection between their everyday choices, the food they consume and the wellbeing of the planet.
Pedagogical Approaches and Curricular Integration The project was based on active, studentcentred learning designed to develop environmental awareness, healthy lifestyle habits, scientific observation skills, digital competence, and communication in English. Pupils engaged in diverse methodologies, including inquiry-based learning, project-based learning, cooperative learning, hands-on experiments, observation activities, roleplay, creative workshops, and outdoor learning experiences. For my young learners of Class 2A " FantasticA ", practical experiences like planting seeds, observing growth, creating digital products, and collaborating with European peers significantly increased engagement and participation.
The project was fully integrated into the Romanian primary school curriculum and connected several learning areas. In Science, pupils investigated plant life cycles, ecosystems, healthy nutrition, and environmental protection. In Romanian Language and Communication, they read informational texts, discussed findings,
