From Awareness to Action: Together for Sustainability by Mariana Furmuzachi
Murièle Dejaune teaches English and French at a vocational high school in France, but her classroom extends far beyond its walls. An eTwinning Ambassador since 2010, she loves connecting students across Europe through creative, awardwinning projects. National and European Quality Labels – and several eTwinning Prizes – have rewarded her work, but her greatest achievement is inspiring students to learn together.
Modern society is constantly changing, and the role of the school goes beyond the transmission of information and the development of academic skills. Modern education must prepare students for reallife situations by developing abilities such as effective communication, cooperation, creativity, critical thinking, responsibility, and the capacity to identify solutions to the challenges faced by today’ s world.
In this context, the international eTwinning STREAM / STEAM project“ Together for Sustainability” represented an opportunity to transform environmental education into an active, engaging, and interdisciplinary learning experience. The project was integrated into the annual eTwinning theme“ Integrating Life Skills into European Projects”, giving students the opportunity to develop valuable competences for the future and understand that environmental protection begins with responsible choices and concrete actions.
The project brought together 10 educational institutions from 2 countries – the Republic of Moldova and Türkiye – with the aim of developing a responsible attitude towards nature, encouraging international collaboration, and applying knowledge in authentic learning contexts.
