Integrating sustainability into science education helps preschoolers and students develop vital skills and think more responsibly about the future. Climate education is not merely important; it is essential. Students develop critical thinking, teamwork, and problem-solving skills, while finding real purpose in what they learn. Introducing the topic of climate change in the classroom not only enriches the curriculum but also empowers students to become responsible, informed citizens.
We brought environmental education into the classroom enthusiastically; topics related to sustainability were an excellent choice for lessons, helping to illustrate STEM subjects or supporting practical, experiential activities. It is important to show students that sustainability is more than just a school subject – it is a mindset. We integrated the environment and sustainability into the STEM curriculum. This includes, among other things, education on climate change, soil and ocean literacy, and the role of naturebased solutions in addressing human and environmental challenges. Integrating nature-based solutions into education is essential for ensuring a greener, better future for all. We ensured that the partner schools involved in this project were committed to incorporating nature-based solutions into teaching and learning, extending even beyond traditional STEM approaches.
Driven by a passion for education, innovation, and community empowerment, we sought to inspire minds, cultivate talent, and foster initiatives that create a lasting impact. In recognition of our ongoing efforts to promote sustainability, we launched the " Unity in Diversity " project. This engagement marked a significant step in our sustainable development, climate action, and impact-oriented leadership within the organizations and communities with which we collaborate. We contributed to the GAoS mission and partnered with European leaders who shared our passion for sustainability and positive change. Through examples of best practices, the project highlighted the role of teachers and schools in fostering skills and habits for active community participation, as well as the importance of effective volunteering – both within and outside the school environment. Conceived as an international educational initiative, the " Unity in Diversity " project( acronym: UID) brought students closer to nature and transformed them into environmentally responsible citizens, thereby contributing to the development of individuals with ecological awareness.
We also fostered recycling awareness among children from an early age to create a more livable environment. In doing so, we integrated recycling into ageappropriate curricula by combining recycled materials with coding, mathematics, and experimental activities. We developed essential skills such as scientific understanding, communication, " learning to learn," and personal creativity that enabled students to assess the environmental impact of their actions.
