Quality recognition The project has recently been awarded the Polish National Quality Label. The project was recognised for its successful development of students ' language, digital, and intercultural competences through shared reading and discussion of English literature. The evaluators particularly appreciated the international online meetings based on materials prepared in advance by project partners, which encouraged active participation and meaningful exchange of ideas between students from Poland, Turkey, and Romania. and conversations that cross national borders.
Our greatest achievement was not simply that students read three English books. It was that they discovered reading as a unique experience – one that helped them build confidence, broaden their horizons, and realise that stories have the power to connect people, wherever they live.
Final thoughts Global Book Explorers – International Book Club demonstrated that books can become a powerful tool for authentic international communication. Reading became the common language that connected students from Poland, Turkey, and Romania through stories, conversations, creativity, and shared experiences.
Beyond improving language skills, students developed confidence, curiosity, digital competencies, and, most importantly, intercultural awareness. They discovered that the same story can inspire meaningful conversations across cultures. For teachers, the project confirmed that combining literature with thoughtfully selected digital tools and international collaboration creates a motivating and effective learning environment. For students, it showed that every book can open two doors: one to the world of imagination and another to friendships
Monika Wójtowicz is a certified English and Polish teacher with experience in primary, secondary, and adult education. She graduated in Polish Philology from the Jagiellonian University and in English Philology from the University of the National Education Commission in Kraków, with research interests in communicative language teaching and digital technologies in education; her article“ Teaching Writing Skills with LEGO ® Blocks” was published in the“ Journal of Language and Culture in Education”( 2025). She is also a co-founder of the Myślenice Association of English Teachers( MELTA), and an active participant and promoter of eTwinning educational projects.
