becoming active participants in their own learning journey.
One of the most significant changes was the transformation of pupils ' attitudes towards mathematics. Children who initially approached mathematical tasks with hesitation became increasingly confident in expressing ideas, proposing solutions and accepting challenges. They discovered that mathematics is not about finding the fastest answer but about thinking, investigating and learning from the process.
The project also fostered essential twentyfirst-century competences. Through collaborative investigations, international teamwork and authentic problem-solving activities, pupils strengthened their communication skills, creativity, critical thinking and digital competence. They learned to ask questions, analyse information, justify their reasoning and appreciate different perspectives. These competences are not limited to mathematics; they prepare children for lifelong learning and responsible participation in society.
Equally important was the project ' s contribution to social and emotional development. Working with peers from different European countries encouraged empathy, tolerance and respect for cultural diversity. Children realised that although languages, traditions and school systems may differ, curiosity, creativity and the joy of learning are universal.
Teachers also experienced significant professional growth. The project encouraged continuous reflection on teaching practices and promoted the exchange of innovative ideas among educators from different countries. Collaborative planning, peer feedback and shared educational experiences strengthened our confidence in integrating project-based learning, STEAM methodologies and digital technologies into everyday classroom practice.
Parents became valuable partners in the educational process. Many learning activities naturally extended beyond the classroom, encouraging families to participate in outdoor investigations, mathematical observations and creative challenges. This strengthened the relationship between school and home while increasing children ' s motivation and enthusiasm.
Perhaps the most valuable outcome of the project is its sustainability. The digital resources, collaborative products, educational games, interactive materials and methodological approaches developed throughout the project remain available for future educational use. They continue to inspire teachers and provide meaningful learning opportunities for new generations of pupils.
The teacher as a learning designer One of the most important professional lessons I have learned through Living Math Explorers is that meaningful educational innovation begins with pedagogy rather than technology.
