The project also reached beyond the school walls. One mother told me that her son had repeated at home all the STEM experiments we had carried out in class because he wanted to share them with his family. For me, this was one of the clearest signs that curiosity had turned into genuine enthusiasm for learning.
Perhaps the most emotional moment of our journey came through the ESA Kids Space Gallery competition. One of my pupils, David, only six years old at the time, had his artwork selected and displayed in the official ESA Kids Space Gallery. His achievement became a celebration for our entire class.
Soon afterwards, the official ESA mascot Paxi arrived in our classroom, bringing immense joy to the children. For them, Paxi was much more than a mascot; it became a symbol that dreams can travel far beyond the walls of a small rural school and that their work could be recognised by one of the world ' s leading space organisations.
The children also had the unique opportunity to meet Romanian astronaut Dumitru-Dorin Prunariu during an online session, follow the NASA Artemis II mission through the Boarding Pass initiative, celebrate World Space Week, participate in EU Code Week, and explore astronomy through innovative digital technologies. These experiences connected classroom learning with the real world and helped children understand that science is alive, exciting and accessible.
