The transition to the next phase – that of human – machine convergence made possible through the capabilities of Artificial Intelligence( AI) – constitutes an adaptation that demands radical changes in the daily life of the average person. It requires particular courage to confront, rather than overlook, the profound challenges posed by the Fourth Industrial Revolution, which already presents itself through urgent questions. Significant ethical dilemmas that have been articulated call for immediate answers within a framework of ethical principles that must be urgently formulated.
Questions concerning individual identity, the protection of personal data, accountability and responsibility in cases of AI decision-making failures, and the existential insecurity of the human being, among others, must be addressed before the emergence of a superintelligence capable of achieving the impossible.
Nonetheless, we must not ignore the evident benefits across various domains of human life, particularly in education. AI applications appear to hold immense potential for improving all aspects of the educational ecosystem, expanding distance learning, facilitating the education of individuals with disabilities, multiplying knowledge and participation within the educational community, and enriching the everyday practice of educators worldwide through new models of pervasive learning.
However, these advancements must be accompanied by safeguards that ensure the protection of all parties involved in the educational process, especially with regard to critical ethical issues that must be resolved as a priority( Vergopoulos, 2020).
When we speak practically about Artificial Intelligence in education, we refer to the use of AI applications and systems to enhance the educational process. Its intended goal must be to deliver effective, adaptive, and personalized instruction to students while supporting educators.
In this context, AI has the potential to improve the learning experience for both students and teachers. It can provide individualized learning paths, adaptive feedback, and intelligent tutoring systems. AI tools can also assist with administrative tasks such as scheduling and data management( Rodafinos, 2023). A core function of Generative Artificial Intelligence is the creation of new content – text, images, or video.
Recent studies( Walton Family Foundation, 2023) show that both educators and students are embracing the use of AI tools. Teachers are adjusting their instructional approaches to meet the personalized needs of students. They are seeking ways to leverage emerging tools and technologies to innovate lesson planning, enhance instructional delivery, increase youth engagement, and create more equitable learning opportunities.
