Virginia Golfer : What got you into both golf and music ? Victoria Matthews : My dad got me into golf and we played a lot . I started both at a very young age . Six for golf and probably about the same for music . I have always been playing music and even now , I am still always playing . It ’ s interesting though because no one in my family really played , but we had this amazing grand piano in my house , so I think just because that was there , I started getting into it and really loved it . I started playing piano and then moved on to guitar , and now I love playing guitar and electric guitar , the ukulele . I am |
trying to learn how to play the violin , and I love singing and songwriting .
VG : How do you find the time to balance golf , music and school at the same time ? VM : It is definitely hard for me . I would say school is my number one priority always , and golf is kind of like my passion . I put a lot of time into practicing , especially this past year . I have had some struggles with golf . Mentally it ’ s hard , and it is a lot of pressure , but I have worked on my mental game and really love it . Music for me is more like a release . Whenever I find the time , instead of watching TV or doing anything else , I would
|
rather be playing music ; it is just so fun for me . I think it actually helps balance my life with school and golf because if you are ever stressed , you can get out what you ’ re feeling and just have fun .
VG : What is your favorite part about playing in golf tournaments ? VM : My favorite thing is probably after you have a bad hole or a bad stretch but being able to come back and make some birdies and hang in it because that used to always be the hardest thing for me . Whenever I had a bad hole , I just couldn ’ t mentally get over it , and I would be too regretful . I had that situation happen to me today
