Stanford, who turned 16 in early August, said his dad has played a key role in his ability to steady his nerves on the course. “As a kid, I think everybody goes through that stage where they’re a little emotional, and they need to work on that,” Stanford said. “He always told me to keep my head in it. It doesn’t matter if nobody’s watching, or if there are 100 people watching. Led by three-point showings from Richmonders Charlie Kennedy and Ben Cooper, the Virgini- as won the 37th edition of the matches 10½-5½.
