Richmond native Teal Barber’ s unique journey from golf professional to influencer

THIS IS PARODY. SATIRE. TEAL BARBER WANTS TO MAKE THIS CLEAR.
The guy you see in the Instagram and TikTok videos, lampooning stuffy country-club tropes, he’ s a character.“ What’ s the point in being rich if poor people can do the same things as us?” Barber chirps during a skit in the“ A Day at the Country Club” series. In another, a random fan slips past an open gate to Barber’ s fictional mansion and asks a simple question:
“ What do I need to do to become a millionaire?”“ Honestly,” Barber sighs.“ I would recommend coming from money.” The schtick becomes even more amusing once you sit down and spend some time with Barber, a soft-spoken Richmond native who got his start as a child actor before discovering a love of golf through his grandfather, Louis Barber. As an 11-year-old, the younger Barber picked up a golf club for the first time, an old TaylorMade Burner Bubble. He took one swing at Windy Hill Golf Course and striped it down the middle.
“ And my grandfather and everybody, they were just staring on the tee box, like, what in the world was that just now?” Barber said, adding,“ And ever since then, I basically just never set the clubs down.”
