79th VSGA Women’ s State Team Matches Winner: Mount Vernon Country Club( def. Bide-A-Wee GC on 2nd playoff hole) Site: Hermitage Country Club The story: Move over Country Club of Virginia. Mount Vernon vs. Bide-A-Wee Golf Club is the new rivalry in this event. The championship match between the clubs finished tied at 27, sending it to a playoff for the first time in recent memory. On the second playoff hole, MVCC’ s Kim Palko snugged her birdie approach to 2 feet and tapped in, leaving Bide-A- Wee’ s Mallory Kane with a 15-foot birdie to extend the match. It caught the edge but lipped out, leaving Kane stunned. VSGA titles: 16 Quoting: " From where I stood, I was ready to go to No. 3. And I don ' t know how many birdies I had left in me. I feel bad because it ' s tough to lip out a putt and lose like that, but she played great all day. 78th VSGA Senior Amateur Championship Winner: Buck Brittain( def. Paras Pandya, 4 and 3) Site: Bay Creek Resort The story: If you’ re going to get Brittain in this event, you better get him early. Brittain survived a 21-hole first-round match before rolling to the title. Pandya advanced to his first final after a thrilling 20-hole win in the semifinals against Scott Shingler but admitted he“ didn’ t have enough in the tank” to follow it up with a win against Brittain.

Career VSGA titles: 12 Quoting: " Paras is a super guy and he ' s a great player. I wanted him to have to make birdies to win, and when he didn ' t do that, once I got a little bit ahead, I felt like I could hold him off."— Brittain The number: 13 – Holes before a hole was won with par in the Shingler-Pandya semifinal match. The first 10 were won with birdie, the 11th with a hole-out eagle, and the 12th with a birdie.
68th VSGA Senior Women’ s Amateur Championship Winner: Kristin Shifflett( def. Joan Gardner, 19 holes) Site: The Omni Homestead Resort( Old) The story: Shifflett played steady golf to stay in the final match and pounced when Gardner made an error off the tee on No. 17. Holding a 2-up lead, Gardner failed to reach the fairway on 17, lost that hole, then lost 18 with a bogey to send the match to extra holes, where Shifflett won with a conceded birdie.
