VSGA Senior Golfer of the Year

BUCK BRITTAIN

HOME CLUB : The Virginian GC
WHAT WAS YOUR PERSONAL HIGHLIGHT OF THE YEAR ? My personal highlight of the year was repeating as the Senior Amateur Champion . My third-round match against Matt Sughrue may be as good of golf as I can play . The final against Steve Serrao I don ’ t think I made a mistake the whole round . My favorite highlight of the year was playing in the U . S . Senior Open . Playing in a senior major with so many of the guys I have watched on TV growing up was amazing .
WHAT IS A FUN FACT NO ONE KNOWS ABOUT YOU ? I have been dressing up for Halloween the last few years since Bo has been old enough to trick or treat . Carrie and Bo do a great job picking our theme and putting together our outfits … As seriously as I take my job and the way I play golf , I don ’ t think most people would see the silly side of me dressing up for Halloween .
BEST ADVICE / TIP YOU HAVE RECEIVED FROM A COACH OR PROFESSIONAL ? This year , before going out to the U . S . Senior Open ( Omaha , Neb .), I was talking with Mark Side , the teaching pro at The Virginian . I had asked him if he had any advice for playing at such a level . He told me not to be afraid to hit a good shot . You know you will be nervous , but you have hit these shots before . Just step up , execute , and don ’ t be afraid of hitting a good shot .

WHAT GOLF GOALS DO YOU HAVE IN 2022 ? To give myself opportunities to win . I turn 55 in January and will be eligible for some national senior events . I hope to get to play in some of those and on the last day to be somewhere in contention . Like every year my number one priority will be to thank my wife , Carrie , for giving me the chance to play and be successful . I owe a lot of what I accomplish on the golf course to her .

WHAT WAS YOUR PERSONAL HIGHLIGHT OF THE YEAR ? Capping 2021 with my best-ever finish in a USGA championship was probably my personal highlight that will keep me pushing to improve into 2022 .
