News & Notes THE 2020 DELTA DENTAL STATE OPEN OF VIRGINIA will be the last edition of the event held at Roanoke’s Ballyhack Golf Club. The VSGA and Middle Atlantic PGA— who jointly conduct the championship— are seeking a new home and title sponsor for the State Open after Delta Dental and Dormie Network independently informed tournament officials that they will pursue other opportunities beyond 2020. 10 “Delta Dental of Virginia and Bally- hack Golf Club have been tremendous partners for the State Open of Virgin- ia and we’re grateful for the exposure they’ve generated for the sport of golf,” VSGA executive director Matt Smiley said. “As we look ahead to the future of this nearly century-old competition, we’re excited for the opportunities to create new partnerships while continu- ing to offer an unmatched competitive V I R G I N I A G O L F E R | N O V E M B E R / D E C E M B E R 2 0 19 tournament for professional and ama- teur golfers.” The State Open of Virginia moved to Ballyhack in 2014 after a spending more than a decade in the Richmond area. Winners at the Roanoke club include PGA Tour winner Lanto Griffin, four-time State Open champ Jay Woodson (who won twice at Ballyhack), and University of Virginia player Jack Montague.
