69th VSGA Senior Amateur Championship
The Homestead( Cascades), Hot Springs, Aug. 22-26
Keith Decker’ s 27th VSGA championship was one of his most dominant. The veteran from Chatmoss CC in Martinsville made quick work of Clifton’ s Rich Buckner( Robert Trent Jones GC) in the championship match, his 6 and 5 victory the most lopsided victory in the title match in 37 years. Decker didn’ t have to play beyond the 15th hole in any of his
matches after earning medalist honors in stroke-play qualifying, and he won his third Senior Am in the last four years.
QUICK FACTS: Field and format: Eighty-four players, with 32 qualifying for match play after two rounds of stroke-play qualifying. Earlier in the
week, I had some good birdies and strung together some good runs there. But the last couple [ of days ] I just sort of played fairly steady, nothing spectacular, and it worked out.”— Decker
