Vernon 31½-22½ to reclaim the
championship and avenge last
year’s loss to MVCC.

Matt Chandler called his 2015
VSGA Mid-Amateur win “kind of
a fluke.” That wasn’t the case
at The Water’s Edge, where
Chandler, who is from nearby
Hardy, led wire to wire and
posted a six-shot victory over
runner-up Vincent Nadeau.
Chandler won his second straight
VSGA Mid-Am and his third title
in five years after shooting 66-6669 for a three-day 204.

competitors, 54-hole stroke

It was over when: Staked to a
five-shot lead after 36 holes,
Chandler shot 4 under par on the
front nine in the final round.

The Carolinas rallied from a threepoint deficit after four-ball and
foursome matches to secure a
25½-22½ win over the Virginias,
the Carolinas first road win in the
Captain’s Putter Matches since
2010. The Virginias won four years
in a row from 2010-2014, but the
Carolinas have won the last two
meetings. The event featured several past individual USGA champions, including Virginias’ Vinny Giles
and Pat Tallent and the Carolinas’
Scott Harvey and Paul Simson.

Ricky Touma, PGA, shot a bogeyfree, 5-under 65 in the second
round to rally past defending
champion Dave Pulk (Two Rivers
CC) and win his first Senior Open
of Virginia title by one stroke. Pulk
was vying to become the event’s
first repeat champion.

players, including exempt
players, qualifying amateurs and
professionals, competing in 36
holes of stroke play.

birdie putt on No. 18 in the
second round came up short,
sealing Touma’s victory.

Field and format: Twentyfour top amateurs from the
VSGA and West Virginia Golf
Association pitted against 24 top
amateurs from the Carolinas Golf
Association in four-ball, foursome
and singles matches.
It was over when: The Carolinas
earned 15 of a possible 24 points
in singles play.
