Stories behind the names on

One of the spoils of a hard-earned victory in a Virginia State Golf Association championship is a photo opportunity with the event’ s perpetual trophy.

The photo may tell the story of that year’ s championship, and players can choose a variety of ways to celebrate their moment with the trophy. In 2021, Becca Dinunzio won the VSGA Women’ s Amateur Championship at Evergreen Country Club, earning her photo opportunity with the Kohler Trophy, which, complete with its base, is heavy and unwieldy.
She chose to sit with the trophy in front of the 18th green rather than hold it out in front of her. In 2019, Michael Brennan won the VSGA Amateur Championship at Keswick and chose all sorts of fun trophy shots, including holding the Schwarzschild Brothers Trophy above his head. In 2025 at the VSGA Mid-Amateur Championship at Poplar Grove, Joey Jordan celebrated his first VSGA championship by kissing the M. W.“ Dyke” Peebles Trophy.
The VSGA’ s array of perpetual trophies celebrate key past contributors to the association, both as competitors and administrators. But just who are these names that adorn the trophies? Let’ s take a spin through history.
